About Richard Man
Richard is a professional photographer and Chinese calligrapher. He brings in the Chinese perspective of composition and negative space to enhance his "moment-in-time" photography. Photography and calligraphy are treated as "a Matter of Dancing Ink," complementary art forms full of spirit, expression and Qi.
In creating a fine art photoprint, he often complements it further by adding a poem or saying in Chinese calligraphy, making each print edition a unique item. He prints using archival inks on either fine art paper or Japanese Kozo paper. Kozo "washi" paper, made from mulberry, is sensuous to the touch, and is considered one of the finest papers for printmaking.
For the discerning collector, he also makes unique single prints by putting "live" calligraphy directly on top of a Kozo print. Richard has spent a number of years researching different available papers to find the best one for this task.
Richard is also available for documentary-style event photography for company functions, weddings, concerts etc. He has done official photography for events from Taiko stage performances to costuming competitions. He will also do calligraphy on commission. For more information, please click on the "Contact and Rates" menu above.
